Starting from Zero: The Next Genesis by Edwin Escolero

S0NG – LOG 21

Within the hollow walls of cavern lies a figure facedown on the ground motionless. Pebbles fall from the ceiling as a bat navigates through the dark cave with it’s vocal sonar. The sound wave bounces off the walls rebounding through the solid surfaces. The winged cave dweller passes the grounded figure overhead when a speck of gravel falls and ricochets off the man’s head.

The grounded man opens his eyes upon being grazed by the chip rock. Staggering as he rises to his feet S0NG looks up where the bat flew overhead. Standing dazed he takes a moment to collect himself before making any further movement.

S0NG LOG 21Outside of the cave the sun shines intensely and the sand dunes glow in a beige gloss. The heated air give off a twisted view of the horizon ahead. Vultures circle through the sky as they await a prey to come out to their way. By a cactus a beetle crawls on the searing sand and tips over when the avian creature swoops down to claim it.

In the cool recesses of the cave S0NG looks around but doesn’t see anything as he tries to recollect some events. Recalling the deciphered texts that he read throughout his journey the explorer tries to make sense of the dream he awoke from. Stroking his chin he realizes that he grew a slight beard and begins to wonder how long he’s been out.
