The Prism Press Special: Starting from Zero: The Next Genesis – LOG 11

Starting from Zero: The Next Genesis by Edwin Escolero

S0NG – LOG 11

A faint light flickers in a stairwell that leads to a hidden station in the vast sand dunes. Underground a man walks through a tunnel as he tries to navigate in pitch-black. With a lantern on hand he uses the train tracks to get a sense of direction. Cold air blankets below the surface as the explorer attempts gauge the distance between the next stop and his current position.

S0NG LOG 11Traversing the long path the adventurer adds a journal entry about the things he’s seen on his trek. Looking back at his notes he reviews the sketch of the railway map that looks like a computer circuit. Reading his earlier notes he estimates his arrival time to the next station.

On the surface a vulture is on stakeout above a cave neighboring the sand covered shelter. A chameleon walks through the sand as it passes a cactus when the vulture descends from the sky to swoop in. Halting it’s movements the reptile changes its color and blends in with the sand. Grazing the spikey plant the old bird screeches as it flies away without a morsel. A sudden wind picks up which blows away sand that covers the shelter exposing a solar panel that begins to absorb the sun’s light.

Below the surface S0NG makes it to the next stop of the underground railway where he observes his surroundings. Looking around he finds no visible sign of an exit aside from a sealed elevator that is out of commission.
